Mexican Mafia Dropout Rat Rene "Boxer" Enriquez
Rene Olmos Enriquez also known as "Boxer" is a former member of the Mexican Mafia that dropped out of the gang and became an informant. He is currently an inmate at Ironwood State Prison in Blythe, California according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), but media reports over the years have said that he has been at various undisclosed federal lockups translating Mexican Mafia communications for the feds. He just might be the Mexican Mafia's most notorious former member because his story has been covered by several major media outlets and he has given interviews telling all about his former homies.
Despite his cooperation it seems that the government agrees with the Mexican Mafia that Enriquez is no good. Whenever he is up for parole the Governor of California finds a reason to deny his release no matter who the governor is. In 2015 Governor Jerry Brown blocked his release and in 2019 Governor Gavin Newsom blocked it again. If he is ever released the feds have stated that he will be placed in witness protection because he is high on the Mexican Mafia's hit list.
In recent years he is believed to have earned at least $50,000 despite being an inmate. All of that money is from the government in exchange for information he has provided about the Mexican Mafia. Orange County Prosecutor Erik Petersen named Enriquez as a key source of information in an operation that helped lock up 48 people. According to Peterson "Mr. Enriquez has testified numerous times in state court as an expert witness, providing both the court and juries with articulate and precise testimony."
